Your education is hard-earned and your achievement is well-deserved. Rutgers has provided the foundation upon which you will continue to build yourselves. You will continue to grow, reflect, and adapt as you move forward in your career. We join you in your celebration as you are now a permanent member of our Rutgers ‘beloved community.’ You are among the 13,000-plus alumni who have graduated from the School of Health Professions since it was founded in 1976—many of whom have had long and distinguished health care careers. Jeffrey J. DiGiovanni, PhD, CCC-A Dean

B RIAN L. S TROM, M.D., M.P.H. CHANCELLOR BIOMEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES

Dr. Brian Strom is the Inaugural Chancellor of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and the Executive Vice President for Health Affairs at Rutgers University.

Prior to joining Rutgers, Dr. Strom was Executive Vice Dean of Institutional Affairs, Founding Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Founding Director of the Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Founding Director of the Graduate Program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Strom earned a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University, and M.D. degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and an M.P.H. degree in Epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley. His major research interest is in the field of pharmacoepidemiology, the application of epidmiologic methods to the study of drug use and effects. He is recognized as a founder of this field and for his pioneering work in using databases for research. In 2016, he received the Oscar B. Hunter Career Award in Therapeutics for his outstanding contributions to clinical pharmacology and therapeutics. In 2020, he was named as a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

J EFFREY J. D I G IOVANNI, P H. D., CCC-A DEAN

Jeffrey DiGiovanni is the Dean of the School of Health Professions (SHP) in Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences Chancellor-led Unit. He came to Rutgers having served as the acting associate dean of research for the College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. He was also a professor and chair of the college’s Department of Communications Sciences and Disorders. Before his tenure at Cincinnati, DiGiovanni held positions as an associate professor, department chair, and chief clinical officer at Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions. An author of more than 40 peer-reviewed articles and books, DiGiovanni’s research focuses on working memory, attention performance and models for persons with normal and impaired hearing. He has held several federal grants for research as well as workforce development. DiGiovanni holds two patents and founded a life sciences company and marketed a novel medical device to treat tinnitus. His past professional service includes participation in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Audiology Advisory Council. DiGiovanni received his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, his master’s and doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota. He holds a professional certificate in audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
